Morgan Wade says she is on a ‘digital detox’: ‘I haven’t logged into anything in a month’

"I've seen a big change in the last 30 days by getting rid of distractions," the country singer tells PEOPLE


Morgan Wade is living off the grid.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE tied to her partnership with Brooks Running, the country music star, 29, also opens up about how she takes care of her mental health by staying off her phone and social media.

"I look at this as a digital detox because it's like, I'm not sitting there playing on my phone. I'm not scrolling, I'm not doing all that," Wade says. "I put my phone on Do Not Disturb."

"I try to not be on social media very much. I haven't logged into anything in a month," she continues. "I've just been reading. I've read so much in this last month that I've not been picking up my phone every two seconds to just mindlessly scroll."

Adds the "Fall in Love with Me" crooner: "I've seen a big change in the last 30 days by getting rid of distractions."

According to Wade, she now has a set routine she likes to take part in each and every morning since her break from electronics and social media.

"I like to read and I journal. I just try to write down a few things that I'm grateful for and start my day off right," she explains. "Then, I go into the gym. ... I'm in there for a couple of hours, and I'm trying to make sure I get my vitamins in and do all this stuff."

Wade says this shift in her routine allows her to look at life differently and focus on the important things.

"I have to sit back and be like, 'Hey, are you doing the things that actually [matter]?' " she says. "Because I know the things that make me feel better, so it's pushing myself to do those and just trying ... to set the tone for my day."

Recently, Wade has found that running has made a big impact on both her mental and physical health overall.

"It's good for me to have that to focus on, outside of the music and everything else," details the star, who recently ran an ultramarathon and plans to take part in more.

She notes that running also inspires her creatively as an artist.

"I come up with all kinds of ideas," Wade explains. "Sometimes I'll stop and be like, 'All right. You definitely have to put this in your phone. You have to make a voice note or something, so you remember this.' "

Wade's love of running is what makes her partnership with Brooks Running a perfect match, as the running shoes, clothing and accessories company takes part in its Let's Run There campaign.

Teaming up with Brooks Running was a no-brainer for Wade, who tells PEOPLE she has been a fan of the brand for years now.

"I was super excited because those are the only running shoes that I use," she says. "My friends, they bought me a pair of Brooks Running shoes, the first pair of running shoes I had, and I've been using those ever since."

"I was super excited to be able to partner with somebody when I'm using their products," Wade continues. "I like what they stand for, and anything that pushes me to continue to be healthy and have that good mental head space is something that I'm happy to be involved with."
